Introduction to my blog's featured game: Create an Interactive Fanfiction Game: A Mix of RPG and Popular Fiction Universe
Introduction
In this article, I'll take you behind the scenes of this ambitious project: from the initial idea to the inspirations and the reasons that drove me to embark on this adventure, as well as the gameplay mechanics:
- The initial idea
- The tools I'm using to develop the game
- The gameplay mechanics
- My inspirations and why I started this adventure "
The Idea Behind the Game
I've always been fascinated by the idea of stepping into the shoes of my favorite characters and shaping their stories. This deep-seated desire has fueled my ambition to create a game that offers players the chance to experience the thrill of living out their own epic adventures. It's a project born from both childhood wonder and a serious commitment to delivering a top-quality gaming experience.
Imagine yourself as a character in Hogwarts, facing life-altering decisions. Will you side with Dumbledore or be tempted by the Dark Lord? Every choice you make will ripple through the story, creating a unique and personal experience. This non-linear gameplay is inspired by titles like Shin Megami Tensei V and Hogwarts Legacy. Additionally, I've drawn inspiration from the popular "what if" scenarios found in fan communities for series like Dragon Ball Z and One Piece. By offering multiple endings, I aim to give players the freedom to explore and discover the full potential of their favorite universes.
Tools Used
The game is currently coded in C++, but I'm exploring other tools for future development. Here are the main tools being used :
- IDE : Visual Studio: For coding and debugging the game.
- Itch.io : This platform will be used to host and share the game once the first playable versions are ready.
- Github (upcoming) : I plan to host the source code on Github to track development in a more organized manner.
- Graphics libraries : I'm considering integrating visual novel elements using tools like SFML or Unity to enhance the user experience.
Gameplay and Mechanics
The game offers a branching narrative structure, where player choices drive the story forward. Key gameplay features include:
- Immersive storytelling : Players become active participants in well-known fictional worlds, making decisions that shape the narrative.
- Character interactions : Dynamic dialogue systems allow players to interact with characters, building relationships and influencing the story.
- Multiple outcomes : With multiple endings for each universe, players are encouraged to explore different paths and discover the consequences of their choices.
- High replay value : The game's non-linear structure promotes replayability, as players can revisit universes to uncover hidden secrets and experience different outcomes.
Fictional Universes
The game will feature a lot of universes including initialy theses ones :
- Harry Potter: Players will become immersed in the wizarding world as they make choices that impact the iconic Harry Potter storyline.
- Dragon Ball: Players will join Goku and his friends in epic battles, facing off against powerful opponents and making decisions that shape the outcome of the tournament.
- One Piece : Become the pirate you've always dreamed of or join the navy to become a defender of justice, Create your own crew or climb the ladder to become the leader of your own team or go it alone, Stay true to yourself and reign your own justice or give free rein to your ambitions while devouring and destroying everything in your path.
Why should I embark on such a project ?
I've always been drawn to the power of games to create immersive narratives. As a dedicated fan of both fanfiction and RPGs, I've long dreamed of developing a game that would allow players to become active participants in their favorite stories.
This project provides the perfect opportunity to combine my love for gaming, storytelling, and coding. It's also a valuable learning experience, as I continue to refine my game development skills.
Next Steps
I'm excited to share that I'll be using this blog to document the game's development journey. Here's what's next:
- Expanding the story with additional narrative content and multiple endings.
- Launching an early playable build on Itch.io for you to try out.
- Designing a user-friendly interface to improve overall gameplay.
Be sure to follow along as I share updates and behind-the-scenes insights!
